雕塑立意取自山东莱西“拓荒牛精神”的典故。拓荒牛，吃苦耐劳，肯干实干，不空谈，重行动，是改革开放中创业者的象征。作品中拓荒牛粗犷雄伟，重心向前，坚韧不拔，所体现出的刚毅和力量，表达了创业者对这片热土的期待与希冀。之所以使用红色，一是代表莱西是革命老区，是红色政权的发源地；二是突出了莱西人那种创业激情，像火一般的热烈奔放。

The sculpture has borrowed its conception from the local allusion of “wasteland-cultivating bull”. The hard-working bull just stands for down-to-earth pioneers who value actions rather than empty talks in the course of reform and opening-up. Leaning forward, the sculpted bull seems rustic, magnificent and full of fortitude as well as power, through which the pioneers’ aspiration and expectation towards their homeland is depicted. The red hue was adopted for two reasons: on the one hand, Laixi is an old revolutionary base area and cradle of red political power; on the other hand, the entrepreneurial passion of Laixi people is as glowing as fire.
